Emile Zola
Restoration of Emile Zola's house in Médan.
Creation of an Alfred Dreyfus museum.
I am particularly attached to this “Zola-Dreyfus” project.Beyond the renovation of Emile Zola's house and the re-creation (by Pascal Cribier) of its great park, the Maison Zola-Musée Dreyfus association seeks especially to create a Dreyfus Museum. It appeared necessary to me to build, within the house, a place entirely devoted to the “Affair” and what it signified and will always signify in terms of the struggle against racism and anti-semitism, and the fight for justice and equality. Thanks to the extremely precious aid of the French state, local governments and philanthropic partners, this museum will be inaugurated in 2011. It will be a place for exhibiting and teaching, for debates and reflection, for memory and vigilance. It will be the only Dreyfus Museum in the world.

Pierre Mac Orlan
Support for the Friends of Pierre Mac Orlan association
A figure of the Montmartre scene of the early 20th Century, a regular at the Lapin Agile and the Bateau Lavoir, a friend of Max Jacob and Appolinaire, Pierre Mac Orlan (1882-1970) became a legend following the publication of Le Quai des Brumes (Port of Shadows), his most famous novel, which was turned into a film directed by Marcel Carné. Also a journalist, poet and lyricist, this incomparably alluring man cultivated mystery about his background and childhood.
A swashbuckler, sensitive and tough, gentle and witty, he sat for 20 years on the Goncourt Academy.
From Montmartre to ocean ports filled with easy women and transient sailors, the author of La Bandera, L'Ancre de Miséricorde, Filles et Ports d'Europe or the Manual of the Perfect Adventurer was a master of the adventure novel in the spirit of Schwob, Stevenson and Kipling who he admired. He was a dreamer always en route to another real or imaginary location.
The Pierre Mac Orlan committee defends and promotes his work in France and on the international stage, particularly through the Mac Orlan Prize instituted through his will, the upkeep of his house at Saint-Cyr-sur-Morin (open to the public) and various authorizations granted by the committee president, Pierre Bergé, the sole holder of Pierre Mac Orlan's droit moral.
